Real world tips for building social media relationships

Social media is a big term that can sometimes be overwhelming to businesses. It is easy to get caught up the urgency of it, the great tools and the vast amount of social media options. But social media, at its core, is about the people. If you do not have an engaged audience, then all of the brand building, tools and gimmicks can easily just become noise.

The first step in any social media strategy should be to figure out who your audience is. Are they strangers who have never done business with you before? Are they existing customers/clients?

Next, take time on your social media outlets to ask questions and engage your followers. Post questions asking what they want from your page: Are they here for specials/deals? Do they want to know more about your company? Are they following you for expert tips/advice? Don’t be afraid to ask these questions. This information will be invaluable as you create your social media strategy.

As in any business relationships, continued engagement is important. Be sure you are engaging the audiences on your social media outlets weekly.
